Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the ingredients. Choose medium-sized onion and carrot. Sour cream of any fat percentage will work; higher-fat sour cream will make the sauce richer and thicker.
Step 2
Peel the onion and carrot. Chop the onion and coarsely grate the carrot.
Step 3
Heat a frying pan and add a little vegetable oil. Add the prepared vegetables and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring so they do not burn, until slightly softened.
Step 4
Add the tomato paste and chopped garlic. You can finely chop the garlic with a knife or press it through a garlic press. Cook for another 2 minutes.
Step 5
Add the sour cream and season with salt and your preferred spices. Ground black pepper and dried basil work especially well. Mix everything thoroughly.
Step 6
Pour in the hot water and add the chopped fresh herbs. Mix well and bring to a boil. The sauce is now ready.
Step 7
Place the stuffed cabbage rolls in the tomato sauce, cover with a lid and simmer over low heat for approximately 30 minutes.
Step 8
Serve the stuffed cabbage rolls with plenty of the tomato sour cream sauce and your preferred side dish.
