Preparation
Step 1
How to fry cabbage in a skillet? Prepare the necessary ingredients. Choose the onion and carrot size to your taste; I use medium ones. Remove the outer leaves from the cabbage head that are damaged and not suitable for eating - usually 2-3 leaves.
Step 2
Peel the onion and carrot and rinse them under running water to remove any dirt. Finely chop the onion, and grate the carrot on the coarse side of a grater.
Step 3
For frying, it’s convenient to use a deep skillet with a flat bottom and high sides. Heat it until hot and add a little vegetable oil. Add the chopped onion and grated carrot. Sauté the vegetables for 2-3 minutes over low heat, stirring occasionally.
Step 4
While the onion and carrot are frying, prepare the cabbage. Thinly shred it with a sharp knife. You can gently massage the cabbage with your hands - it will soften and cook faster.
Step 5
Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and mix everything. Fry over medium heat, uncovered, for 5-7 minutes. During this time the cabbage will stop being crunchy and will reduce in volume.
Step 6
Add salt and any dried spices to taste. I use a little paprika, ground black pepper, and a couple pinches of dried basil. Mix with the cabbage. Keep it on the heat for another 7-10 minutes. Be sure to stir the cabbage periodically so it doesn’t start to burn. Check doneness by the thickest pieces - they should become soft. If you like, you can add a little tomato paste.
Step 7
Pan-fried cabbage is ready. Enjoy your meal!
