Oven-Baked Potatoes with Meat, French-Style
Incredibly tasty, made from simple ingredients, for the whole family! French-style potatoes with meat in the oven will brighten both everyday and festive menus. It bakes for about an hour, but your hands-on time is only around 15 minutes - the oven does the rest. A hearty lunch or dinner in any season!

Step 1
How do you bake French-style potatoes with meat in the oven? Prepare the required ingredients. You can use any meat, but keep in mind cooking time and calories will change. I’m using pork. For a lighter option, use turkey or chicken. Use light cream - 10-15% fat is enough.
Step 2
Choose good-quality meat, preferably from a young animal - then it will cook through with the potatoes and won’t turn tough. Cut the pork into small pieces and lightly pound it with a meat mallet.
Step 3
Put the pounded meat into a small bowl, sprinkle with salt and spices. Add minced garlic and let it rest for 5-10 minutes (up to 30 minutes for a stronger marinade).

Use any oven-safe baking dish - ceramic, glass, or metal. I’m using a ceramic dish. Grease the bottom and sides with a piece of butter and rub with garlic slices.
Step 5
Place all the prepared meat pieces into the dish and spread them evenly over the bottom. Slice green onion and sprinkle over the meat. If you prefer, use thinly sliced regular onion instead.
Step 6
Peel the potatoes and rinse under running water. Slice them very thinly. A food processor with a slicing attachment works well. If slicing by hand, cut as thinly as possible; in that case, it’s best to blanch the potato slices in boiling water for 3-5 minutes so they bake through. Toss the potatoes with salt and spices.
Step 7
Spread the potatoes over the meat. Lightly salt and pepper the cream, then pour it over the potatoes. The cream adds a rich flavor and binds everything together.
Step 8
Generously sprinkle the top with grated cheese and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 45-50 minutes. Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your oven.
