Preparation
Step 1
For this dish, you can use ground meat from any kind of meat: pork, beef, chicken, turkey or veal. Use sour cream of any fat content, the main thing is that it’s good quality and without vegetable fat substitutes. Put the required amount of ground meat into a large bowl.
Step 2
Peel the onion, rinse it under cold water and chop it finely. Add the chopped onion to the bowl with the ground meat. The onion can also be minced in other ways - grated, put through a meat grinder, or pulsed in a chopper.
Step 3
Add the egg to the bowl. Season the ground meat with salt and spices to taste. You can use any spices you like. Mix the entire mass very well.
Step 4
After mixing, it may seem that the ground meat is too loose to form balls. You can fix this by adding a little semolina. It will absorb the excess moisture. Instead of semolina you can also use breadcrumbs. Knead the ground meat well. Let it sit for a bit so the semolina swells.
Step 5
Prepare the sauce in which the meatballs will be baked. How to make the sauce? Combine the sour cream with water. Stir until the sour cream is evenly distributed in the water.
Step 6
Pour a little of the sour cream sauce into the prepared baking dish. Then shape the ground meat into meatballs and place them into the dish. To keep the meat from sticking to your hands, moisten your hands in cold water before rolling each ball.
Step 7
Pour the remaining sour cream sauce over the meatballs. Place the dish in an oven preheated to 180°C (about 356°F) for 40 minutes. Make sure there is enough sauce. If it evaporates completely, add a little hot water. The meatballs should become nicely browned with an appetizing crust.
Step 8
Put the finished meatballs onto plates and serve hot. As a side dish you can make boiled rice or mashed potatoes, but they will also be very tasty as an independent dish. Enjoy your meal!
