Easy
About 20 min.
Preparation
Step 1
Take any white bread - loaf, baguette, or ciabatta. Use any vegetable oil, such as sunflower or olive. Choose spices to taste, e.g., paprika and oregano. Cheese should be high quality and melt well.
Step 2
Cut bread into pieces - sticks or cubes. Trim the crust if too hard.
Step 3
Pour oil into a small bowl, add spices, and mix well. Optionally add crushed garlic or garlic powder.
Step 4
Put the bread pieces in a large bowl, pour the seasoned oil over them, and mix gently by hand to coat evenly.
Step 5
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the croutons in a single layer. Sprinkle with salt. Bake at 170°C (340°F) for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until golden and crisp.
Step 6
While croutons bake, grate the cheese coarsely.
Step 7
Remove the baking sheet and sprinkle croutons with cheese.
Step 8
Increase oven temperature to 220°C (425°F) and bake 5-10 more minutes until the cheese melts. Cooking time may vary depending on your oven. Cool the croutons.
Step 9
Serve with soups, add to salads, or enjoy as a snack with sauces and drinks.
