Preparation
Step 1
How do you make millet porridge with pumpkin in the oven? Prepare the ingredients. You can choose any variety of pumpkin. Depending on the variety, the pumpkin pieces will soften more or less. I used Hokkaido pumpkin. It is fairly sweet and aromatic, and it turns out especially good in porridge. If you want the porridge to have a distinctly sweet flavor, add 2-3 tbsp sugar. With the amount of sugar and honey listed in the recipe, the taste will be only mildly sweet.
Step 2
Sort through the millet carefully and rinse it very well until the water runs completely clear. Pour boiling water over the millet and leave it for 2-3 minutes. This is necessary to remove any bitterness from the grain.
Step 3
Then drain the water and dry the grain. The best way is to place the millet in a sieve.
Step 4
Peel the pumpkin and cut it into small pieces. That way it will cook faster.
Step 5
Grease a baking dish with butter. Place the chopped pumpkin into the dish. Spread the millet over the top. If you like, you can leave everything in layers or mix the millet with the pumpkin.
Step 6
Next, you can simply sprinkle the pumpkin and millet with sugar and place the honey on top. Or dissolve the honey and sugar in warm milk. In either case, the result will be the same, because during baking the sugar and honey will spread throughout the dish.
Step 7
Pour the milk over everything. You may need a little more or a little less. The milk should completely cover the pumpkin and millet, but it should not reach the edges of the dish. Otherwise, when it boils, the milk will spill out and begin to burn in the oven. Choose a baking dish large enough to hold everything. Place pieces of butter on top.
Step 8
Cover the dish with foil, or with a lid if your oven dish has one, and place it into an oven preheated to 180°C (350°F) for about 40 minutes. The exact baking time depends on your oven and the dish you use.
Step 9
All the milk should be absorbed into the grain, and the millet should swell and become soft. Stir the finished porridge and divide it among plates. Serve hot. Enjoy your meal!
