Easy
About 20 min.
Preparation
Step 1
I weighed everything so you know the exact amounts. But the proportions are simple: use 1 part millet to 2 parts water. It doesn’t matter if you measure with cups or the multicooker’s measuring glass.
Step 2
First, sort the millet, removing debris and unhulled red grains. Then rinse it. I usually put it in a wide bowl and cover with warm tap water. Notice how cloudy the first water is - you can’t even see the millet. Wash it thoroughly by hand and drain the water.
Step 3
Rinse the millet in several changes of water, draining each time. Once the water runs clear and the millet turns bright yellow, it’s ready.
Step 4
Drain the last water. Optionally, scald the millet with boiling water to remove bitterness after cooking. This trick prevents a bitter taste.
Step 5
Place the prepared millet in the multicooker bowl. Add salt to taste. Put half the butter on top, cut into cubes.
Step 6
Pour in clean water. Use filtered or bottled water for best taste. Tap water often contains additives that can affect flavor.
Step 7
Place the bowl in the multicooker. Choose the program for cooking grains. On mine it’s “Buckwheat,” others may have “Grain.” If your model allows, set 30 minutes. Mine is automatic. When the program ends and the signal sounds, open the lid and stir in the remaining butter. If you have time, let it sit covered for another 30 minutes.
Step 8
Mix the porridge with the butter. Portion onto plates and serve warm. Enjoy!
