Preparation
Step 1
How do you bake a lenten cake in the oven? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Use refined vegetable oil without odor. Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F). Pour warm filtered water into a deep bowl. Add the sunflower oil, sugar, and a pinch of salt. The salt will make the flavor of the finished cake brighter.
Step 2
Pour the liquid honey into the bowl. If your honey has crystallized, melt it in a double boiler. To do this, take two saucepans, one slightly larger than the other. Put the honey into the smaller one, and pour water into the larger one until it reaches about one-third to one-half of its volume. Then place one saucepan inside the other and heat over medium heat, stirring the honey constantly. It will not burn; stirring simply helps it become liquid faster.
Step 3
Sift the all-purpose flour directly into the bowl in portions. This will help the cake rise better. Stir the batter with a whisk until smooth. Depending on the quality of the flour, you may need a little more or a little less. Use the batter consistency as your guide. It should be about as thick as medium-fat sour cream.
Step 4
Add the baking soda and lemon juice to the batter and immediately stir with the whisk. You need to mix through the entire batter, because this determines whether the cake rises evenly or not.
Step 5
Take two baking pans and grease the bottoms with sunflower oil. Divide the batter in half and pour it into the pans up to half their height. Bake the cakes in the preheated oven at 160°C (320°F) for about 30 minutes. The exact time depends on your oven. You can check for doneness with a toothpick: insert it into the center of the cake and remove it right away. If it comes out dry, the cake is ready.
