Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the ingredients. You can use ground pork, veal, chicken or a mixture of meats. Peel the potatoes and rinse them. Choose a cheese that grates easily and melts well.
Step 2
Grease the bottom and sides of a heatproof baking dish with vegetable oil. Slice half of the potatoes into rounds and arrange them in an even layer over the bottom.
Step 3
Peel the onion and chop it.
Step 4
Scatter the chopped onion over the potatoes. Season lightly with salt and your preferred spices.
Step 5
Spread the ground meat evenly over the onion layer and season with a little salt.
Step 6
Slice the remaining potatoes into rounds and arrange them over the meat. Spread generously with sour cream, then season with a little more salt and spices. Bake in an oven preheated to 355°F for about 45–50 minutes. After approximately 30 minutes, you can loosely cover the dish with foil to keep the potatoes from drying out.
Step 7
Meanwhile, grate the cheese.
Step 8
Once the top layer of potatoes is tender, sprinkle generously with the grated cheese and return to the oven for another 4–5 minutes.
Step 9
Bake just until the cheese has melted. Remove the dish from the oven and serve hot.
Step 10
The layered potatoes with ground meat and cheese are ready to serve.
