Preparation
Step 1
How do you bake pork belly in foil in the oven? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Use chilled pork belly that has not been frozen before. Otherwise, during thawing all the juices will come out and the finished dish will turn out dry. I like to use pork belly with a good amount of meat. The small amount of fat it contains is enough to keep the piece juicy. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
Step 2
Rinse the pork belly under running water and dry it well with paper towels to remove all excess moisture from the surface. Peel the garlic. Make slits on the sides of the pork belly with a sharp knife and insert the garlic cloves. If the cloves are very large, you can cut each clove into 2-3 pieces.
Step 3
Then sprinkle the pork belly with salt, ground pepper, and spices to your taste. I used paprika. Rub the salt and spices into the meat with your hands.
Step 4
Place the prepared pork belly on a sheet of foil. Put a few bay leaves on top.
Step 5
Wrap the pork belly tightly in the foil so that no openings remain anywhere. If needed, you can use one more sheet of foil. Place the wrapped piece into a metal baking dish and put it into the oven preheated to 190°C (375°F) for about 1 1/2 hours. The exact time depends on your oven. Why is a metal baking dish needed? It is best suited for dry roasting. Ceramic or glass dishes may crack from excessive heat.
Step 6
Because the piece is wrapped tightly, it will not fall apart during cooking. After the specified time, remove the dish from the oven. Cut open the foil with a sharp knife and let it stand for a couple of minutes. During this time the strongest heat will escape from the dish, and it can then be transferred to a serving plate.
Step 7
The finished pork belly can be sliced into pieces right away and served. Or you can put it into the refrigerator until it cools completely. When chilled, it will be easy to cut into thin slices for sandwiches. Enjoy your meal!
