Preparation
Step 1
How do you make chicken hearts with rice? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Use a medium onion and carrot. Any kind of rice will work. Check that the grains contain no debris or impurities and that they are whole and even. The vegetable oil should be odorless. Choose the spices to your taste.
Step 2
Frozen hearts need to be thawed beforehand. Remove the packaging and leave them overnight on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator. Rinse the hearts under running water and let them drain. Trim away excess fat and blood. If needed, rinse them again. Chop the hearts finely. This way they will cook faster and release their flavor into the rice better.
Step 3
Peel and rinse the carrot and onion. Grate the carrot on a coarse grater. Finely chop the onion. In this form, the vegetables will fry faster and, during simmering, will give the rice a nice color.
Step 4
Cook the hearts in a skillet with a thick bottom or in a cauldron. Heat the skillet over medium heat. Pour in the required amount of vegetable oil. After a minute, transfer the chopped hearts to the skillet. Stirring, fry them for about 3 minutes over heat slightly above medium so the hearts brown evenly but do not dry out. If you see that the hearts are starting to dry, lower the heat.
Step 5
Add the carrot to the skillet after the hearts, because it takes longer to cook than the onion. Fry, stirring, for 3–4 minutes. Since all stoves are different, control the temperature as needed. If the ingredients begin to stick to the skillet, reduce the heat.
Step 6
Then add the onion and fry everything together for another 2-3 minutes. Do not forget to stir. Add salt and spices to taste. If you are using a ready-made spice mix that already contains salt, reduce the amount of extra salt. Otherwise, you may oversalt the dish and spoil its flavor. Rinse the rice in several changes of water until the water runs clear. Add it to the skillet. Stir so the ingredients are distributed evenly.
Step 7
Add 2 cups of room-temperature water to the skillet. This way the ingredients will not cool too much and the water will come to a boil quickly. Cover with a lid and simmer over low heat. After 15 minutes, remove the lid. If there is almost no water left, leave it covered for another 5 minutes. If there is still plenty of water, remove the lid and continue cooking until the water evaporates. Let the finished dish rest for another 10 minutes. Enjoy your meal!
