Preparation
Step 1
How to make buckwheat with stewed meat in a skillet? Prepare the ingredients. Use any canned stewed meat you like - beef or pork. Choose top grade, with as little fat and as much meat as possible. I used beef.
Step 2
Sort through the buckwheat, rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear, and pat dry.
Step 3
Cut the carrot into small pieces - matchsticks, cubes, or quarters (as I did), or grate it on a coarse grater. Note: grated carrot will cook down into a soft mash and blend in; sliced carrot will hold its shape.
Step 4
Peel the onion. If you want to stew it together with the carrot, dice it small. I cut the onion in half so it would simmer, release flavor, and then I removed it from the finished buckwheat.
Step 5
In a skillet over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil. If you like, replace part or all of the oil with the fat from the can of stewed meat. Add the carrot and sauté, stirring, until softened. If using diced onion, add it now and cook with the carrot.
Step 6
Add the stewed meat to the skillet with the carrot.
Step 7
Stir and simmer over low heat for 5 more minutes.
Step 8
Add the rinsed buckwheat, the onion halves, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Use less salt at first since the stewed meat is already salty - adjust at the table if needed. Stir well.
Step 9
Pour in warm clean water and stir.
Step 10
Cover and simmer over low heat for about 25 minutes, until some water is absorbed and the rest evaporates. Do not stir the buckwheat while it cooks.
Step 11
Remove from the heat, take out the onion halves, add pieces of butter, and stir. Let stand covered for 10-15 minutes, then serve, sprinkled with chopped herbs. Enjoy!
