Easy
About 20 min.
Preparation
Step 1
Use any bread - white, rye, or whole grain. You’ll need two slices per sandwich. I used regular loaf bread. Choose canned tuna in its own juice with only fish and salt. Take the butter out of the fridge in advance so it softens.
Step 2
Any greens will do - dill, parsley, or green onions. Wash, dry, and chop finely, removing thick stems.
Step 3
Wash and dry the tomato, then cut into slices.
Step 4
Drain the liquid from the can and transfer the tuna to a bowl. Mash with a fork into a pâté-like consistency. Add mayonnaise and mustard (preferably mild, mine was with seeds). Add the chopped greens. Mix well into a tuna spread. You may also add chopped red onion, lemon juice, or a boiled egg to taste.
Step 5
Take one slice of bread. Spread a thick layer of tuna mixture over it. Place a couple of tomato slices on top.
Step 6
Put cheese over the tomatoes. I used sliced hard cheese, but you can also grate it. Spread a very thin layer of softened butter on one side of the second slice of bread - just enough to help it toast. Place it on top of the sandwich, buttered side up. Flip and butter the other slice the same way. Make the second sandwich in the same manner.
Step 7
Heat a skillet over low heat. Place the sandwiches on it. Fry until golden brown, then flip. Cover the pan with a lid until the cheese melts. Remove the sandwiches and serve immediately.
Step 8
Before serving, you can cut the sandwiches in half for easier eating. Enjoy!
