Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients to make the tastiest sweet poppy seed buns in the oven.
Step 2
Pour 250 ml room-temperature milk into a measuring cup, then add 7 g dry yeast and 75 g sugar.
Step 3
Add 2 tbsp flour to the cup.
Step 4
Mix everything well, then set it aside for 15 minutes to activate the yeast.
Step 5
Crack 1 egg into a large bowl, then add 1/4 tsp salt and 1 tsp vanilla sugar.
Step 6
Add 50 g softened butter to the bowl.
Step 7
Mix all the ingredients in the bowl well.
Step 8
Pour the activated yeast mixture into the bowl with the egg-and-butter base.
Step 9
Mix everything together well.
Step 10
Sift 500 g wheat flour into the bowl with the liquid base and add 1/2 tsp baking powder. Keep in mind you may need a little more or a little less flour than I did.
Step 11
Mix and knead the dough in the bowl.
Step 12
Sprinkle a little flour on the table, transfer the dough, and knead it well.
Step 13
Put the dough in a bowl, grease it with vegetable oil, and leave it to rise for 1 hour.
Step 14
Transfer the well-risen dough to the table, knead lightly to shape it, then cut it into 14 equal pieces.
Step 15
Roll each piece into a fairly thin round.
Step 16
Roll the rounds into tight logs and place them on a plate.
Step 17
Grease your hands with vegetable oil and roll each log into a rope from the center toward the ends, then set aside.
Step 18
Cross two ropes and twist them to form a braid.
Step 19
Pinch the ends of each braid well to seal.
Step 20
Shape the buns, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with a towel, and leave to proof.
Step 21
For the topping, mix 1 tbsp steamed poppy seeds with 1 tbsp sugar.
Step 22
After proofing, brush the buns on top with beaten egg.
Step 23
Sprinkle the prepared poppy topping over the buns and bake in an oven preheated to 175°C (347°F) for about 20 minutes, then turn off the oven and leave the buns inside for 5 more minutes. Adjust time and temperature to your oven.
Step 24
When time is up, remove the baking sheet with the buns from the oven.
Step 25
Enjoy your meal and have a cozy tea time at home!
