Preparation
Step 1
I have beef stew meat, but you can also use pork. It’s important to choose good-quality canned meat with more meat and less fat.
Step 2
Remove the stew from the can and cut it into small pieces. You can discard the fat, especially if you use pork, to make the dish less greasy. Since mine is beef, I left a little fat.
Step 3
Peel the potatoes and cut them into medium cubes.
Step 4
Peel the carrots and grate them coarsely.
Step 5
Peel and finely dice the onion. If you or your kids don’t like onions, you can skip them or add a whole onion during stewing under the lid - it will flavor the dish and can be removed later.
Step 6
Heat vegetable oil in a thick-bottomed pot. Add the onions and fry for 3 minutes over high heat until translucent.
Step 7
Add the carrots and sauté, stirring, for another 2-3 minutes.
Step 8
Add the canned meat to the vegetables and mix. Simmer everything on low heat for about 5-7 minutes.
Step 9
Add the potatoes to the pot. Sprinkle in khmeli-suneli seasoning, salt, pepper, and add a bay leaf.
Step 10
Pour in hot water (about ⅓ cup or 2.7 fl oz). Stir well. The potatoes should be almost covered with water; add more if needed.
Step 11
Simmer on low heat under a lid for 25-30 minutes until the potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally.
Step 12
Serve the stewed potatoes with canned meat on plates and sprinkle with herbs. Enjoy your meal!
