Advice
Besides pork, you can use any meat for this dish. Keep in mind the cooking time, flavor, and calorie content will vary. For example, beef takes longer to cook than pork, while chicken or turkey cooks faster.
Preparation
Step 1
What meat can you use besides pork? Any - beef, lamb, chicken, or turkey. But note the calorie count and cooking time will vary. Feel free to add your own spices too.
Step 2
Wash the meat, pat it dry, and cut it into medium cubes. Use boneless pork, such as ham, shoulder, loin, or tenderloin. I used ham.
Step 3
Drizzle meat with vegetable oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and mix. Let it marinate for 30 minutes.
Step 4
Wash and dry the mushrooms. Cut large mushrooms in half; leave small ones whole. I used cremini mushrooms. You can use any mushrooms, but wild ones may need to be boiled first.
Step 5
Slice the onion into half rings or small cubes, as you prefer.
Step 6
Peel and finely chop garlic. You can use 1 tbsp of dried garlic instead.
Step 7
Heat a skillet over high heat. Add mushrooms and sauté for 5 minutes until golden brown. Transfer to a plate. If you use a non-stick pan, no oil is needed; otherwise, add some oil.
Step 8
Add pork with marinade into the skillet. Fry on high heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until a golden crust appears.
Step 9
Sprinkle in the onion and garlic. Cook everything together for another 2-3 minutes.
Step 10
Return mushrooms to the skillet. Pour in apple juice, sprinkle with paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Cover and simmer over low heat for 10-15 minutes.
Step 11
Serve the ready meat with mushrooms on plates, sprinkle with chopped herbs, and serve. Bon appétit!
