Easy
About 20 min.
Preparation
Step 1
Any canned stew will work. I used beef. It’s important to choose top-grade or extra-grade stew - higher grade means more meat content. Tomato paste can be replaced with canned tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, or ketchup.
Step 2
Remove damaged outer leaves from the cabbage and cut out the core. Shred the cabbage.
Step 3
Peel the onion and chop it into small cubes or half rings. If you or your kids don’t like onions, you can skip them.
Step 4
In a deep skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Fry the onion until translucent.
Step 5
Add shredded cabbage. Fry, stirring, for 10-15 minutes. The cabbage will reduce significantly in volume.
Step 6
Add tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Stir and stew for another 5-7 minutes.
Step 7
Add the canned stew and bay leaves to the cabbage. Mix well and stew for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 8
Remove the skillet from heat, cover with a lid, and let the cabbage with stew sit for about 10 minutes. Enjoy!
