Easy
More than 1 hour.
Preparation
Step 1
Prepare all the necessary ingredients. The butter should be soft. Sift the flour in advance to aerate it.
Step 2
To soften the butter faster, cut it into pieces and leave it at room temperature.
Step 3
Add sugar to the softened butter and beat until smooth. Then add sour cream and eggs, mixing everything into the batter.
Step 4
Next, add lemon zest for a slight citrus note. You can replace the lemon with almond extract if desired.
Step 5
Gradually add the sifted flour while mixing. You can use a mixer for this step. The batter should be smooth, thick, and lump-free.
Step 6
Immediately pour the batter into a 7-9 inch (18-22 cm) baking pan and place it in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C). Bake for 50-60 minutes. Baking time may vary depending on your oven.
Step 7
Let the baked sponge cake rest in the pan for a while, then remove and allow it to cool completely.
Step 8
You can slice the sponge cake into pieces and eat it as a simple tea-time cake. Alternatively, cut it into layers and use them to assemble a cake with your favorite frosting. Enjoy!
