Preparation
Step 1
How do you preserve sliced onion for winter? First, prepare all the ingredients needed for the marinade. Sterilize a jar in advance, or several small jars, so you can later pack the prepared onion into them.
Step 2
Take a medium-sized saucepan and pour in all the water. Add the granulated sugar and salt right away, then add the peppercorns, bay leaves, and cloves.
Step 3
Pour the table vinegar and a little vegetable oil into the saucepan. Put the saucepan with all the ingredients on the stove over medium heat. Bring the contents of the saucepan to a boil. Once the water and the other ingredients come to a boil, cook everything for another couple of minutes. Note: as soon as you put the saucepan on the stove, start working with the main ingredient - the red onion.
Step 4
I recommend using medium-sized onions and making sure all the onions are about the same size, so you do not have a mix of large, small, and medium ones together. Uniform slices look more attractive. First, peel all the onions, then cut each onion in half and slice the halves into thin half-rings. This cut is not essential, but it is the most convenient and attractive.
Step 5
Now place the sliced onion directly into the saucepan with the boiling marinade, then immediately turn off the heat. Leave the onion in the marinade for 1 minute. Then transfer the onion to the sterilized jar or jars and immediately seal each one tightly with a lid that has just been boiled. Cool the jar or jars by turning them upside down and placing them in a warm spot. Cover them on top with a plaid or blanket.

Enjoy your meal!
