Preparation
Step 1
How do you make buckwheat with ground meat in a skillet? Prepare all the ingredients. First sort through the buckwheat to remove any spoiled grains, then rinse it thoroughly.
Step 2
Prepare the vegetables. Peel the onion and carrot. Dice the onion into small cubes and grate the carrot on a coarse grater.
Step 3
Sauté the prepared vegetables together in a skillet with a small amount of vegetable oil (olive oil works too). Don’t fry long - just until you can smell fried onion.
Step 4
As soon as that happens, add the ground meat. Homemade, freshly ground meat is best. You can use pork, beef, or a mix. Cook everything together until the meat loses its pink color and is no longer raw.
Step 5
Add the buckwheat to the skillet and toast it for a couple of minutes. This helps keep the buckwheat from overcooking later, so it stays pleasantly firm and holds its structure. Toasting also makes it fluffier and gives it a special aroma.
Step 6
Next, pour in all the water. It’s better to use filtered water, since it will be absorbed and become part of the dish. Cook covered over low heat for 10 minutes - during this time, almost all the water will evaporate.
Step 7
Open the lid, salt the buckwheat with meat and vegetables, then finish cooking over the lowest heat (still covered). Stir occasionally. This will take about 10 more minutes.
Step 8
Buckwheat with ground meat is ready.
Step 9
For a more appetizing, colorful look, garnish with green onion rings. You can replace the onion with other herbs, chopped and sprinkled over the finished dish.
