- teaspoon - 5 ml
- dessert spoon - 10 ml
- tablespoon - 20 ml
- glass - 200 ml
Preparation
Step 1
How do you stew chicken with sauerkraut in a skillet? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Any part of chicken works; I used a large leg quarter.
Step 2
Only real fermented sauerkraut works for this dish. Quick vinegar cabbage won’t do. If it’s too sour, cover it with cold water for 5-10 minutes. Then drain in a colander or sieve, rinse under cold water, and let the water drain off.
Step 3
Rinse the chicken leg quarter, pat dry, and remove the bones. Cut the chicken into pieces and place in a bowl. Add tomato paste and minced garlic. Mix and leave to marinate for 5-6 hours.
Step 4
Peel and chop the onion and add it to a skillet with vegetable oil. Sauté the onion for 5 minutes, stirring.
Step 5
Add the sauerkraut to the onions and stir. Season with pepper, sprinkle with sugar, and pour in water. Cover and simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Watch so the cabbage doesn’t burn; add a little water if needed.
Step 6
Pour vegetable oil into another skillet and heat over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces and sauté over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring.
Step 7
Add a bay leaf and chopped garlic and stir.
Step 8
Place the sautéed chicken pieces on top of the cabbage. Cover again and simmer for another 15-20 minutes until done. Remove from heat and serve.
Step 9
With chicken and sauerkraut you can serve boiled potatoes, herbs, and fresh vegetables. You can serve it on a plate or, like me, in individual small skillets. Enjoy!
