Salad with Red Fish, Cucumber, and Cheese

A delicate, layered dish with lightly salted fish, eggs, cheese, and fresh cucumber for a festive table or everyday treat.

Advice
To prevent eggs from cracking while boiling, place them in cold water and cook over low heat. Boil for 7–8 minutes after the water starts boiling, then pour cold water over the eggs and let them cool. The sudden temperature change helps the shells peel off more easily.
Preparation
Step 1
For the salad, you can use any lightly salted or smoked red fish (salmon, trout, chum salmon, pink salmon). I’m using lightly salted trout.
Step 2
Wash the eggs. Always wash eggs before using, as harmful bacteria may be present even on seemingly clean shells. Boil the eggs until hard-boiled. Once cooled, peel them and separate the whites from the yolks.
Step 3
Cut the egg whites into small cubes.
Step 4
Remove the skin and any possible bones from the red fish. Cut the fish into small cubes.
Step 5
Wash the cucumber and pat it dry. If desired, peel the skin off the cucumber. Cut it into small cubes.
Step 6
You can use any cheese for the salad: hard, semi-hard, processed, or soft. The main thing is that it’s tasty, high-quality, and without vegetable fat substitutes. Grate the cheese on a coarse grater. If using soft or processed cheese, you can cut it into small cubes instead.
Step 7
The salad can be assembled in a serving ring or mixed together in a salad bowl. I have a ring with a diameter of about 6.3 inches (16 cm). Place it on a plate. For the first layer, put in the prepared fish and smooth it out.
Step 8
Drizzle a bit of mayonnaise over the fish layer.
Step 9
Next, add the chopped cucumber layer. Also smooth, press down lightly, and spread with mayonnaise.
Step 10
Spread the grated cheese evenly and press down well. Apply mayonnaise on top of the cheese layer, too.
Step 11
Distribute the chopped egg whites evenly, and spread with mayonnaise.
Step 12
Finely grate the egg yolks on top in an even layer.
Step 13
Before serving, remove the serving ring and decorate the salad as desired. Serve immediately. Enjoy your meal!
