Easy
About 20 min.
Preparation
Step 1
Start by preparing a garlic butter sauce.
Step 2
Melt the butter and let it cool slightly.
Step 3
Peel and press the garlic.
Step 4
In a bowl, mix melted butter, garlic, salt, and pepper.
Step 5
Prepare the chicken and apples. Choose a chicken size that fits your Dutch oven.
Step 6
Wash, dry, and rub the chicken inside and out with the garlic butter sauce.
Step 7
Peel and core the apples, then cut into slices. To prevent browning, choose varieties like Granny Smith.
Step 8
Place some apples in the buttered Dutch oven.
Step 9
Place the chicken on top of the apples and stuff it with remaining apple slices. Distribute extra apples around the sides if any remain.
Step 10
Optionally, add a bit of water. It’s usually unnecessary as the apples and chicken release enough juice. Cover with the lid.
Step 11
Bake in a preheated 350°F (180°C) oven for 1 hour. Remove the lid, baste the chicken with juices from the bottom, then continue baking 20-25 more minutes until golden, basting occasionally.
Step 12
Transfer the cooked chicken with apples to a serving dish and serve immediately. Enjoy!
