Advice
To ensure the oven reaches the right temperature, turn it on in advance, about 10-20 minutes before you start baking.
Preparation
Step 1
Measure out the necessary ingredients. You can use kefir of any fat content. Take it out of the fridge beforehand so it comes to room temperature. Use odorless vegetable oil.
Step 2
Mix the flour with baking powder and sift it. This helps the cookies rise well during baking and makes them airy and soft.
Step 3
In a bowl, beat the egg with the sugar and vanilla sugar until smooth. Adjust the sugar to taste. With the amount given, the dough won’t be overly sweet. Add more sugar if you prefer sweeter cookies, but keep in mind that the tops of the cookies will also be dipped in sugar.
Step 4
Pour in the kefir and mix.
Step 5
Add the vegetable oil and mix well.
Step 6
Gradually add the sifted flour mixed with baking powder. Start mixing the dough with a spoon, then knead it by hand. You may need more or less flour depending on the dough’s consistency.
Step 7
The dough should be smooth, stiff yet soft, pliable, and very pleasant to work with. It’s easy to shape into any figures.
Step 8
Break off small pieces of dough. Roll each piece into a thin rope.
Step 9
You can shape the ropes into hearts, twists, rings, figure-eights, or spirals. Or simply make round cookies like gingerbread shapes.
Step 10
Dip the top of each cookie into sugar.
Step 11
Place the shaped cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Step 12
Bake the cookies in a preheated oven at 356°F (180°C) for about 20 minutes. Adjust the time and settings according to your oven. As soon as the cookies turn golden, take the baking sheet out. Don’t overbake them, or they may become dry.
Step 13
Let the cookies cool and serve. Enjoy your meal!
