Easy
About 30 min.
Preparation
Step 1
You can prepare the hand pies using either water or milk. Sift the flour ahead of time to enrich it with oxygen.
Step 2
Heat the water to a warm temperature (around 95–100°F / 35–38°C). If the water is too hot, the yeast may die; if it’s too cold, they’ll work too slowly. Add yeast, salt, and sugar to the warm water and stir to begin dissolving the yeast.
Step 3
Add vegetable oil to the bowl, then gradually add the flour. Do not add all the flour at once - you may need more or less depending on the dough consistency.
Step 4
The finished dough should be soft and not sticky to the hands.
Step 5
Divide the dough into 10-15 parts and shape the pies with any filling you like. In this example, mashed potatoes are used.
Step 6
Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the shaped hand pies onto it.
Step 7
Brush each pie with egg yolk. If your filling is savory (like mashed potatoes), you can sprinkle the tops with sesame seeds. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 25-30 minutes. Adjust based on your oven. The finished pies will be golden brown and slightly puffed.
Step 8
Let the pies cool slightly and enjoy. Bon appétit!
