Preparation
Step 1
Puff pastry can be either yeast-based or yeast-free. I used yeast-free. Remove the dough from the freezer in advance and leave it at room temperature to thaw. Choose cheese to your taste, but make sure it melts well. I used mozzarella. Separate the yolk from the white - you will use it to brush the pastries.
Step 2
Roll the thawed puff pastry slightly on a floured surface. Cut the dough into 6 squares. Place a slice of ham and cheese on each square. If the dough is rolled very thin, you can make 8 squares instead.
Step 3
Bring the corners of each square together in the center and pinch the edges to form a little envelope.
Step 4
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the prepared pastries on it, brush with egg yolk, and lightly sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds. The egg yolk will give a golden appetizing color. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for about 20 minutes. Baking time may vary depending on your oven.
Step 5
The baked puff pastries with ham and cheese will slightly rise and turn golden. Some cheese may ooze out. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and enjoy. Bon appétit!
