Easy
More than 1 hour.
Preparation
Step 1
What meat can be used besides pork? Any - beef, lamb, chicken, or turkey. Keep in mind this will affect the calorie count and cooking time.
Step 2
Rinse the pork, pat it dry, and cut into large pieces. Use boneless pork. Choose your preferred cut - ham, shoulder, loin, neck, or tenderloin. I used ham.
Step 3
In a bowl, mix soy sauce, lemon juice, Italian herbs, and ground black pepper. You can also add spices like paprika, garlic powder, ground coriander, or khmeli-suneli. Soy sauce replaces the need for extra salt. Always adjust seasoning to your taste!
Step 4
Pour the marinade over the pork. Let it marinate for 2 hours at room temperature or overnight in the fridge. The longer it marinates, the juicier and tastier the meat.
Step 5
Clean the bell peppers from seeds and stems, then slice them into strips. Use different colored peppers for a more vibrant and appealing dish.
Step 6
Peel the onion and slice it into half-rings.
Step 7
Heat a skillet over high heat. You can add vegetable oil if you wish, but it’s not necessary - the marinade keeps the meat from sticking. Sear the pork on all sides until golden brown.
Step 8
Add the onions and sauté for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 9
Add the bell peppers to the meat, pour in broth or water, and optionally some of the marinade. It adds extra aroma and leaves you with delicious gravy at the end.
Step 10
Cover and simmer the pork with bell peppers on low heat for about 45 minutes, until tender.
Step 11
Serve immediately, garnished with chopped fresh herbs. Enjoy!
