Preparation
Step 1
Prepare all necessary ingredients. You can use any fish for frying—some prefer freshwater, while others like sea fish. Pollock is a popular choice due to its minimal bones and mild smell, making it easy and quick to cook.
Step 2
Wash and clean the fish. If your pollock has a head, remove it. Cut the fish into portion-sized pieces without removing the bones. Rinse the pieces again and pat them dry with paper towels.
Step 3
Pour wheat flour or breadcrumbs onto a plate and coat the fish pieces on all sides. This will create a crispy, golden crust when fried. If you prefer a softer batter, beat an egg, dip the fish in it first, and then coat it in flour. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan. Once the oil is hot, place the fish pieces in the pan.
Step 4
Immediately season the fish with salt and pepper. Fry over high heat for about 5 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook on the other side. Reduce the heat to medium, add a little water to prevent burning, and cover the pan with a lid. Let the fish cook for another 20 minutes. Then, remove the lid and cook for a few more minutes before turning off the heat.
Step 5
While the fish is frying, prepare the side dish. Fried fish pairs well with pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes. The quickest option is pasta, which takes about 10 minutes to cook. Pour cold, clean water into a pot, add a pinch of salt, and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, add any type of pasta you prefer, such as spaghetti, elbows, shells, or spirals.
Step 6
Stir immediately to prevent sticking. Bring to a boil again, reduce the heat, and cook the pasta for about 7-10 minutes, depending on the type (whether made from durum wheat or not) and the time indicated on the package. Drain the water, rinse the pasta with cold water, and return it to the pot. Add a piece of butter and salt to taste.
Step 7
Serve the fish with pasta. Enjoy your meal!
