Preparation
Step 1
The weight of pears indicated is for unpeeled fruit. Choose ripe and juicy pears. I use homemade pears. For flavor, you can add cardamom, cloves, vanilla, or cinnamon to the jam.
Step 2
Wash the pears and dry them with paper towels. Remove the cores, cut off the stems, and chop the pears into medium-sized pieces. If desired, you can peel them for a smoother jam. My pears are very soft with delicate skins, so I kept the peel on.
Step 3
Use a food processor to blend the pears into a smooth puree. Alternatively, you can use an immersion blender or a meat grinder. Blend the pears in small batches for a more uniform texture. Adjust depending on your equipment.
Step 4
Pour the pear puree into a saucepan with a non-stick coating or a thick bottom. You can add a few drops of lemon juice if desired. Add the sugar, mix well, and place the saucepan on the stove. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
Step 5
Simmer the pear jam for 30-40 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. To check the consistency, drop a bit of the jam onto a plate and wait for a couple of minutes. It should not run off. The finished jam will be thick and dark.
Step 6
While the jam is cooking, sterilize the jars and lids. Pour the hot pear jam into clean, sterilized jars, leaving some for testing – so you don’t have to wait until winter! This amount of ingredients will fill one half-liter jar.
Step 7
Seal the jars with sterilized lids. Turn the jars upside down, wrap them in a warm blanket, and let them cool completely. Store the jam in a cool, dark place.
Step 8
Serve the pear jam with pancakes, cheese pancakes, fritters, or simply enjoy the delicate jam on its own. Enjoy cooking!
