Preparation
Step 1
How do you pan-fry mussels with onion? Prepare the ingredients from the list. You can use frozen or fresh mussels. Lime can be used instead of lemon. I used a package of frozen seafood.
Step 2
First, take the mussels out of the freezer and leave them at room temperature until fully thawed. To thaw faster, put the mussels in a colander and rinse under a stream of cold water.
Step 3
Peel the onion. Cut it in half and rinse under running water. Slice the onion into thin half-rings or quarter-rings.
Step 4
Heat a small amount of olive oil or neutral refined vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet. Add the onion and cook, stirring, until lightly golden. Keep the heat slightly above medium.
Step 5
Add the thawed mussels to the skillet. Stir everything well with a wooden spatula. Cook over medium heat until liquid appears. Then lower the heat a bit and simmer the mussels with the onion for about 5-7 minutes.
Step 6
When the mussels start to brown, season with salt to taste and add ground pepper. Stir gently and remove the skillet from the heat.
Step 7
The skillet mussels with onion are ready. When serving, sprinkle with finely chopped herbs - green onion or dill work great. I used chives this time. Drizzle with freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice.
Step 8
They’re very tasty served hot.
Step 9
You can also serve the mussels with onion as a cold appetizer with a glass of white wine.
