Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the ingredients. You can use homemade or store-bought dumplings. Both fresh and frozen dumplings will work; frozen ones do not need to be thawed beforehand. Use sour cream of any fat content.
Step 2
Prepare the sauce first. Mix the sour cream with hot water until smooth.
Step 3
Grate the cheese on a medium grater so it melts more quickly. You can use firm, semi-firm or soft cheese such as mozzarella, as long as it melts well.
Step 4
Heat a frying pan over medium heat, preferably one with a nonstick coating. Add the vegetable oil, then arrange the dumplings in the pan. Be careful when adding frozen dumplings, as the hot oil may splatter.
Step 5
Fry the dumplings on both sides, turning them individually with a fork or tongs. Brown them as lightly or deeply as you prefer.
Step 6
Pour the sour cream sauce over the browned dumplings and season with salt. Reduce the heat to low, cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes, depending on their size, until the dumplings and their filling are fully cooked. Make sure the sauce does not evaporate completely; add a little water if necessary.
Step 7
The dumplings will swell and absorb most of the sauce. Turn off the heat and immediately sprinkle with the grated cheese. Cover the pan and leave for about 5 minutes, until the cheese melts.
Step 8
Serve the dumplings hot.
