Preparation
Step 1
How to bake tomatoes with cheese in the oven? Prepare the ingredients. Use an Italian-style cheese that holds its shape and doesn’t spread under high heat. Parmesan, low-moisture mozzarella for pizza, or another semi-dry cheese works well.
Step 2
Wash and pat the tomatoes dry. Slice them into rounds that are not too thick, but not too thin either. Choose ripe but firm tomatoes - soft ones won’t hold their shape and will turn mushy. Pink tomatoes are ideal: sweet and fragrant.
Step 3
Peel the garlic and finely chop it with a knife.
Step 4
Grate Parmesan (or another firm semi-dry cheese) on a medium grater.
Step 5
Line a baking sheet or baking dish with parchment and brush it with olive oil. Arrange the tomato slices in a single overlapping layer.
Step 6
Brush the tomatoes with olive oil, then sprinkle with chopped garlic, sea salt, and pepper. Since this is a classic Italian pairing - tomatoes, Parmesan, basil - a pinch of Italian herbs is perfect here. Put the tray in an oven preheated to 180°C (356°F) and bake on the grill/broil setting for about 10 minutes. Adjust time and temperature to your oven.
Step 7
Remove the tomatoes, sprinkle with grated cheese, and return to the oven for 3-5 minutes, until the cheese melts.
Step 8
Sprinkle the finished tomatoes with basil leaves and serve. Enjoy!
