- teaspoon - 5 ml
- dessert spoon - 10 ml
- tablespoon - 20 ml
- glass - 200 ml
Preparation
Step 1
Start making the tastiest cabbage rolls: prepare the ingredients and spices, then cut off the bottom part of the napa cabbage head.
Step 2
Place the cabbage leaves into a large bowl.
Step 3
Pour 1 liter (about 4 ¼ cups) of boiling water over the leaves.
Step 4
Cover the scalded leaves with a plate on top.
Step 5
Coarsely chop 2 onions.
Step 6
Add the chopped onion to a heated frying pan with vegetable oil and sauté, stirring, until translucent.
Step 7
Grate 1 carrot on a coarse grater.
Step 8
Add the grated carrot to the pan.
Step 9
Lightly sauté the onion and carrot together, stirring.
Step 10
To drain all the water, transfer the cabbage leaves to a colander.
Step 11
Put 600 g (about 1.3 lb) of minced meat (any kind you like) into a deep bowl, then add 350 g (about 1 ½ cups) of cooked rice.
Step 12
Add half of the sautéed onion-and-carrot mixture from the pan.
Step 13
Season the mince mixture to taste with coriander, salt, and a mix of black and red pepper.
Step 14
Mix everything very well until evenly combined.
Step 15
Into the pan with the remaining onion and carrot (on the stove), add 2 tomatoes, cut into wedges.
Step 16
Slice ½ bell pepper into thin rings, then chop them a little smaller.
Step 17
Add the bell pepper to the pan with the vegetables.
Step 18
Coarsely grate the bottom part of the napa cabbage.
Step 19
Add the grated cabbage to the main bowl and mix everything again.
Step 20
Sauté the vegetables in the pan over medium heat, then add 2 garlic cloves (sliced), salt to taste, a pepper mix, and a bay leaf.
Step 21
Stir everything, turn off the heat, and let the vegetables sit for a few minutes.
Step 22
Place one heaping tablespoon of the prepared filling onto each cabbage leaf.
Step 23
Roll the leaf up tightly into a log.
Step 24
Tuck the side edges inward on both sides.
Step 25
Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet lined with cabbage leaves.
Step 26
Spoon the sautéed vegetable topping over the rolls and pour in 800 ml (about 3 ⅓ cups) meat broth. Cover the tray with foil and bake in an oven preheated to 200°C / 392°F for 1 hour. Then remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes until golden.
Step 27
After the time is up, remove the baking sheet with the finished cabbage rolls from the oven.
Step 28
Enjoy your meal!
