Preparation
Step 1
How do you make cabbage with sour cream in the oven? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Use natural sour cream without milk fat substitutes. The fat content does not matter much: both 10% and 30% sour cream will work.
Step 2
Wash the head of cabbage very well with hot water. It is best to use a special brush and vegetable wash. In addition, remove 2-3 outer leaves, as they contain a lot of ingrained dirt. Cut the cabbage into medium pieces. Do not chop or shred it finely. The pieces should be diamond-shaped, about 2-3 cm, about 3/4-1 1/4 inches, on each side.
Step 3
Heat water in a pot, salt it, and bring it to a boil. Cook the chopped cabbage in the boiling water for about 3-4 minutes. It should become slightly softer.
Step 4
Drain the cabbage in a sieve or colander. The water should drain off well.
Step 5
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet. It can be any kind of vegetable oil, sunflower, olive, or another kind. But since we will be frying the cabbage, use refined oil so it does not burn in the skillet. Add the cabbage to the skillet and fry it over fairly high heat for 5-7 minutes. The cabbage should brown slightly.
Step 6
Prepare an ovenproof dish for making the recipe. Place the cabbage into the dish and press it down a little. At this stage you can add herbs and seasonings to the dish. Follow your taste: for some, ground pepper will be enough, while others may want to add freshly chopped herbs such as dill, parsley, cilantro, or 1 clove of fresh garlic.
Step 7
Pour the sour cream over the cabbage. If the sour cream is thick, spread it evenly over the cabbage with a spoon.
Step 8
Sprinkle the top with cheese grated on a coarse grater. The cheese can be any kind: hard, semi-hard, or even blue cheese.
Step 9
Cover the dish with foil, but make sure it does not touch the cheese. Otherwise, the cheese will stick to the foil. Place the dish into an oven preheated to 180°C (350°F) and cook for 20 minutes. Since the cabbage is already almost cooked, the cooking time is not long.
Step 10
The finished cabbage is tasty both hot and cold. Enjoy your meal!
