Easy
About 20 min.
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 210C and lightly butter two baking trays.
Step 2
Sift the flour into a large bowl, then rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar, chocolate drops, and orange zest.
Step 3
In a measuring jug, combine the milk with the juice of one orange. Gradually add this liquid to the flour mixture until a soft dough begins to form, taking care not to overwork it and noting that you may not need all the liquid.
Step 4
Roll the dough out to about 2cm/1in thick and cut out rounds using a 5-6cm/2-2½in cutter. Arrange the scones on the prepared trays, brush the tops with milk, and bake in the centre of the oven for 10-12 minutes, or until risen and golden brown.
Step 5
Remove from the oven and allow to cool on a wire rack. Serve warm with clotted cream and slices of satsuma.
