Advice
You can replace sour cream with plain natural yogurt.
Preparation
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients according to the list.
Step 2
Add sugar and vanilla sugar to the sour cream and mix well. Let it sit for 10 minutes until the sugar dissolves completely. Then stir again.
Step 3
Pour clean drinking water over the gelatin and leave it to swell for 15 minutes. Read the instructions on your gelatin package carefully - it might need a different preparation method.
Step 4
Then dissolve the gelatin over low heat or in the microwave.
Step 5
While stirring constantly, gradually pour the gelatin into the sour cream mixture in several batches. Stir thoroughly to prevent the hot gelatin from forming lumps when it touches the colder sour cream. The mixture will become very liquid but will set well in the fridge later.
Step 6
Cut off the neck of a 1.5-liter plastic bottle. Use a straight bottle without any embossed patterns. Pour a few spoonfuls of the sour cream mixture into the bottom to completely cover it. This helps stabilize the mandarins. Place the bottle in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to let the layer set.
Step 7
While the sour cream is setting, peel the mandarins. Thread them onto a long wooden skewer. Keep stirring the remaining sour cream mixture occasionally while the first layer sets in the bottle. If it begins to set too early, microwave it for a few seconds.
Step 8
Insert the skewer with mandarins into the center of the bottle onto the set sour cream layer. Secure the skewer from the top with another skewer so it doesn’t move. Fill the bottle with the remaining sour cream mixture. Refrigerate the dessert overnight to set completely.
Step 9
To serve, cut the bottle along the side and carefully remove the set mandarin dessert. Remove the skewer. Slice the festive gelatin mandarin dessert and serve, garnished with mint. Enjoy!
