Meat in Pots with Potatoes and Cheese

Aromatic, juicy, hearty – a true masterpiece! Meat is baked in pots with potatoes, mushrooms, and cheese. Pre-frying the meat and mushrooms keeps them juicy. The whole family will love this dish.

Preparation
Step 1
Use boneless meat – shoulder or neck work well. You can use any mushrooms, but champignons are the easiest to prepare. If using wild mushrooms, boil them first according to their type.
Step 2
Rinse the meat and pat it dry thoroughly—excess moisture prevents browning. Trim off extra fat. Cut the meat into medium-sized chunks.
Step 3
Peel the potatoes and cut them into large cubes. Place them in a saucepan, cover with cold water, and bring to a boil over medium heat. After boiling, reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes. Salt at the end.
Step 4
Peel and dice the onion.

Rinse the champignons gently using a sponge, then pat dry and cut into large chunks.
Step 6
Heat a frying pan over high heat and add some vegetable oil. Place the meat into the pan and fry, stirring, for about 5 minutes until it changes color. Then reduce heat slightly and cook for another 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Remove meat from pan. Drain water from the potatoes.
Step 7
Return the pan to the stove, add more oil if needed. Add the onion and sauté for a couple of minutes. Then add the mushrooms and salt them. Fry for about 10 minutes until the liquid evaporates and they get slightly golden.
Step 8
Grate the cheese using a coarse grater.
Step 9
Take ceramic pots for baking. Mine are 560 ml (about 2.4 cups). Place some potatoes at the bottom, then a layer of meat. Spread a little mayonnaise on top.
Step 10
Next, add a layer of sautéed mushrooms with onion. Sprinkle everything with grated cheese.
Step 11
Place the pots on a baking tray, cover with lids. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 20–30 minutes. The exact time depends on your oven and the size of the pots. My oven is slower, so I baked for 30 minutes. Remove from oven when done.
Step 12
Serve the baked dish directly in the pots or transfer to plates. Enjoy!
