Preparation
Step 1
Any ground meat will work: pork, beef, or a mix. Chicken mince can also be used.
Step 2
Cut the washed and peeled potatoes into small pieces. Place them in a pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Salt the potatoes and cook over medium heat until tender. Check doneness with a knife: if it pierces easily, the potatoes are ready.
Step 3
Drain the potatoes. Mash them into purée with a masher, adding warm milk and butter. Set aside a little butter for greasing the baking dish. Let the mashed potatoes cool slightly.
Step 4
Meanwhile, prepare the meat filling. Peel and wash the onion, then chop it into small cubes.
Step 5
In a skillet with vegetable oil, sauté the onion until half-cooked, stirring occasionally.
Step 6
Add the ground meat to the skillet. Cook over medium heat with the onion, breaking up lumps. Stir until the meat changes color.
Step 7
Season with salt, add tomato paste, black pepper, or any spices you like. Mix well.
Step 8
Fry the meat for another 10 minutes.
Step 9
Beat an egg into the warm mashed potatoes and mix thoroughly with a spoon or masher so the egg is evenly distributed.
Step 10
Grease the bottom and sides of a baking dish with butter. Spread half of the mashed potatoes evenly.
Step 11
Spread the cooked ground meat evenly on top.
Step 12
Cover the meat layer with the remaining mashed potatoes, smoothing the top.
Step 13
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 25-30 minutes. Adjust the mode and time according to your oven. Before baking, you can make a pattern on top with a fork if you like.
Step 14
Serve hot with sour cream, butter, or your favorite sauce. Enjoy!
