Preparation
Step 1
How do you make mashed potatoes with egg and milk? Prepare the ingredients. Wash the potatoes well under running water to remove any dirt. The egg can be any size, and the milk can be of any fat content. Choose good-quality natural butter without vegetable fats.
Step 2
Place the peeled potatoes into the pot in which you will cook the mash. If the potatoes are large, cut them into 2–3 pieces. Cover the potatoes with cold clean water so they are fully submerged. Place the pot over the heat, add salt to taste, and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and cook the potatoes for 20–25 minutes, until tender. The exact time will depend on the type of potato and the size of the pieces.
Step 3
Heat the milk until hot. You can do this in any convenient way, either on the stove in a small saucepan or in the microwave. Do not skip this step, because adding cold milk will make the mash turn an unattractive gray color.
Step 4
You can check whether the potatoes are ready by piercing them with a knife. It should slide into the potato easily. When the boiled potatoes are soft, drain off the hot water and add a little butter. The butter will begin melting immediately on the hot potatoes.
Step 5
Mash the potatoes together with the butter using a potato masher. Then pour in a little milk and mash again.
Step 6
The first intense heat has already left the potatoes, so now you can add the egg. Mash the added egg together with the potatoes.
Step 7
Gradually pour the remaining milk into the mashed potatoes and continue mashing. The potatoes will absorb the milk. Adjust the consistency of the finished mash by adding more milk as needed.
Step 8
If you like your mashed potatoes thinner, add a little more milk. The mash is ready. Serve it as a side dish with any meat or fish dishes. Enjoy your meal!
