Easy
About 20 min.
Preparation
Step 1
You can adjust the amount of sugar, lemons, and mint to your taste. The larger the lemon, the stronger the flavor of the drink.
Step 2
Wash and pat dry the mint. Remove the leaves from the stems and chop them with a knife so they release juice.
Step 3
Since the lemon is used with peel, wash it thoroughly, scrub with a brush, and rinse again.
Step 4
Cut the lemon in half and squeeze out the juice. It’s easier with a manual or electric juicer.
Step 5
Place the chopped mint and lemon peel into a pot. Add cold water. Tip: Bitterness comes from the white pith between the peel and the flesh. The thinner the pith, the less bitterness. Choose lemons with thin skin. If the pith is thick, it’s better to use only the yellow zest, peeled with a knife. I don’t mind a little bitterness, so I added the peel whole.
Step 6
Place the pot over medium heat. Bring the water to a boil, then simmer on low heat for 5 minutes. During this time, the zest and mint will release their flavor and aroma into the drink.
Step 7
Remove the pot from heat. Add sugar and stir thoroughly. Let the drink cool to a warm temperature.
Step 8
Once cooled, remove the lemon peels. Strain the lemonade through a sieve into another container. Add lemon juice and stir.
Step 9
Place the lemonade in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours to chill completely.
Step 10
Pour the chilled lemonade into glasses. Add fresh mint leaves, lemon slices, and ice cubes. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
