Preparation
Step 1
How do you make a layered salad with walnuts and chicken? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. The mayonnaise can also be made at home. Boil the chicken fillet in salted water until done, then let it cool.
Step 2
Finely chop the walnuts or pulse them in a blender. Do not process the nuts for too long - they should not turn into very fine crumbs, but should still be noticeable in texture.
Step 3
Grate the cheese on a coarse or medium grater.
Step 4
Cut the cooled chicken fillet into small cubes. The smaller the meat pieces, the better the salad will absorb the flavors.
Step 5
Hard-boil the eggs, cool them, and peel them. Separate the yolks from the whites and grate them separately on a coarse grater. I prefer to grate the eggs directly into the salad bowl.
Step 6
You can serve the layered salad in a salad bowl, but I prefer to assemble it in a food ring so the layers are visible. For this amount of ingredients, you will need a ring measuring 14-18 cm, about 5.5-7 inches. Depending on the size of the ring, the salad will be taller or shorter. Place the ring on a serving plate and make the first layer from the chopped chicken fillet. Level the layer and spread it with mayonnaise. I usually pipe a mayonnaise lattice using a pastry bag.
Step 7
Sprinkle or grate the egg yolks on top. The grater size is not important, as long as the yolks cover the entire surface of the salad.
Step 8
Sprinkle the yolks with half of the chopped walnuts.
Step 9
Pipe or spread another layer of mayonnaise on top.
Step 10
The next layer will be the grated egg whites. They should also be topped with mayonnaise.
Step 11
Spread the grated cheese over the whites and add mayonnaise on top.
Step 12
The final layer will be the remaining walnuts. Let the finished salad rest in the refrigerator for about 1-2 hours so it can absorb the flavors. You can vary the layers by adding a tart-sweet green apple grated on a coarse grater. With apple, the salad will be juicier.
Step 13
Before serving, remove the food ring. Decorate the salad with walnut halves and parsley. Enjoy your meal!
