Kutia with Nuts and Poppy Seeds

Try it - and you’ll understand why the Slavs loved this dish! Kutia with nuts and poppy seeds is a delicious and healthy ceremonial dish enjoyed across christian cultures. It’s easy to make. You can use rice, millet, or wheat, and any kind of nuts.

Preparation
Step 1
How to make Kutia with nuts and poppy seeds? Prepare all ingredients from the list. Use any nuts, either one type or a mix.

Rinse the rice several times.
Step 3
Pour about 1 cup (240 ml) of water into a pot and place it on the stove.
Step 4
Once the water boils, add the rice and cook for about 2-3 minutes, then drain in a colander.
Step 5
Rinse the rice under cold water.
Step 6
Return the rice to the pot, add fresh water, and cook until fully done.
Step 7
Drain again, let the water run off, and place the rice on a plate.
Step 8
Pour boiling water over the poppy seeds, then drain it off.

Grind the poppy seeds in a mortar or crush with a rolling pin.

Scald almonds with boiling water, peel off the skins, then crush them in a bowl for kutia (you can use any nuts).

Add sugar.

Add the crushed poppy seeds, a little water, and mix all ingredients well.

Scald raisins with boiling water, drain, and rinse under cold water.

Mix the raisins with the rice mixture.

Sprinkle sugar or powdered sugar on top and decorate with walnuts.
