Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the ingredients. You can use any type of ground meat or a mix. I made my own from chicken fillet, but store-bought ground chicken works too.
Step 2
Cut the cheese into medium cubes—one per patty. You can use any cheese that melts well, such as Gouda.
Step 3
Chop the chicken fillet into pieces and grind it using a blender or meat grinder. If using a meat grinder, you can grind the onion and soaked bread together. I used a blender, so I grated the onion separately.
Step 4
Soak the white bread in cream or milk for 10 minutes. No need to remove the crusts.
Step 5
Peel the onion and grate it on a fine grater or grind it with the meat.
Step 6
In a bowl, mix the ground chicken, onion, soaked bread, minced garlic, and spices.
Step 7
Knead the mixture well until smooth, then beat it by throwing it into the bowl multiple times. Let it rest for 10 minutes.
Step 8
Divide the mixture into 6-8 equal portions and shape round patties, placing a cheese cube inside each one.
Step 9
Place the patties in a greased baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for 20 minutes.
Step 10
While the patties are baking, prepare the gravy. You can substitute tomato paste with tomato sauce, ketchup, or blended fresh tomatoes. Use broth or water, and season to taste.
Step 11
In a dry pan over low heat, stir and roast the flour until it has a nutty aroma.
Step 12
Add sour cream and tomato paste, stirring continuously.
Step 13
Slowly pour in hot broth or water while stirring. Add sugar, salt, and ground pepper. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat. If there are lumps, strain the sauce through a sieve.
Step 14
Pour the tomato sauce over the cheese-filled patties and return to the oven for another 30-35 minutes. The exact time depends on your oven.
Step 15
Serve the baked chicken patties with sour cream and tomato gravy alongside your favorite side dish. Enjoy!
