Preparation
Step 1
How to make hot dogs at home? Prepare all the necessary ingredients. You can bake the hot dog buns yourself or use ready-made store-bought ones. I usually use store-bought buns for this recipe. If possible, choose good-quality sausages from a trusted producer or the kind you buy most often.
Step 2
Pour cold water over the sausages and place the pot on the stove. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and cook until fully done.
Step 3
While the sausages are cooking, prepare the other ingredients. Peel the onion and wash the tomato. To make the finished hot dog look brighter and more colorful, I used red onion. You can use any cucumbers you like - pickled, marinated, or even fresh. In this recipe I used marinated cucumbers. Slice the tomato and cucumber into thin rings. If the tomato is large, cut it into half-rings.
Step 4
Warm the hot dog buns in the microwave or in the oven. It’s easier and faster to use the microwave - it takes about 40-50 seconds.
Step 5
Rinse the lettuce leaves and pat them dry with paper towels. Slice each bun lengthwise almost all the way through, but not completely, so it forms a kind of pocket. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise inside the bun (optional). Place 2-3 lettuce leaves inside.
Step 6
Next, add a few onion rings, cucumber slices and tomato slices into the bun.
Step 7
Place the boiled sausage in the center.
Step 8
Drizzle with ketchup and mustard. A sweet-and-sour mustard works perfectly here.
Step 9
Sprinkle with crispy fried onions for hot dogs. Done!
Step 10
Serve immediately, while the bun and sausage are still warm.
