Preparation
Step 1
How to make ginger jam with lemon? Prepare everything you need. Choose a larger ginger root so it’s easier to peel. Adjust the amount of ginger to taste.
Step 2
Peel the ginger root and cut it into small pieces.
Step 3
Transfer the chopped ginger to the pot you’ll use for the jam and cover it with sugar. (I use an enamel pot.)
Step 4
Add the required amount of water, stir, and place over heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Simmer over low heat for 7-10 minutes.
Step 5
As it cooks, the ginger will reduce slightly in volume, the syrup will start to thicken, and the jam will turn a golden color.
Step 6
Zest the lemon. Add the zest to the pot with the ginger. Stir and bring back to a boil. Choose the syrup thickness to your liking: the longer it cooks, the thicker it will be. After the jam cools, you can add lemon juice or small pieces of lemon pulp for extra tang and vitamin C. You may need to add a bit more sugar. Add cinnamon or mint if you like.
Step 7
The finished jam should be a beautiful golden color and very fragrant. Pour into clean, prepared jars and let cool. Store in a cool place and use as needed. This unusual jam can be added to baking or hot drinks. Enjoy!
