Preparation
Step 1
How to fry potatoes with cheese in a skillet? This recipe is as simple as it is tasty. Start by preparing all the listed ingredients. Choose small, even-sized potatoes, possibly elongated in shape.
Step 2
Wash the potatoes thoroughly and scrub them well with a brush. Without peeling, slice them into rounds about ½-⅔ inch (1-1.5 cm) thick. I used young potatoes, but any type will do. You may also peel them and cut into sticks or quarters if you prefer.
Step 3
Grate the cheese on a coarse grater. You can use any cheese you like - mozzarella, Gouda, or a regular hard cheese such as cheddar. The main thing is that it melts well and tastes good, as the cheese largely defines the dish’s flavor. You can even replace hard cheese with processed cheese if desired.
Step 4
Finely chop the garlic.
Step 5
Heat both vegetable oil and butter in a thick-bottomed skillet over low heat. Add the potatoes. Butter gives a delicate flavor, but since it burns easily, vegetable oil is added - its smoke point is higher. This way, the butter won’t burn, and the potatoes will brown nicely while keeping a buttery aroma.
Step 6
Fry, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. At the end, sprinkle the potatoes with chopped garlic, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir and cook together for 1-2 minutes.
Step 7
Sprinkle the potatoes with grated cheese. Optionally, add finely chopped bacon or ham at this stage.
Step 8
Cover the skillet with a lid and cook for 3-4 minutes, until the cheese melts.
Step 9
Sprinkle the finished fried potatoes with chopped bell pepper, green onion, and fresh herbs if desired, and serve immediately while the cheese is still soft and stretchy. Enjoy your meal!
