Preparation
Step 1
You can use either store-bought or homemade dumplings. They must be frozen - this prevents them from sticking to the skillet while frying. Take them out of the freezer right before cooking.
Step 2
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Pour in vegetable oil. Carefully place the dumplings in a single layer. Be careful - ice crystals on the frozen dumplings will melt and cause the oil to splatter.
Step 3
Fry the dumplings, shaking the skillet slightly so they don’t stick. Once the dough is golden on one side, flip the dumplings to the other side using a fork. Meanwhile, bring water to a boil.
Step 4
Turn off the heat under the skillet. This is important to prevent excessive splattering when adding water to hot oil. Carefully pour boiling water into the skillet. Turn the heat back on. Add salt and pepper to taste. You can also add a bay leaf.
Step 5
Reduce the heat, cover the skillet with a lid, and cook the dumplings until the water evaporates. This will take about 7-10 minutes, depending on their size.
Step 6
Serve the dumplings immediately. They go well with sour cream, mayonnaise, or tomato sauce. Enjoy!
