Advice
Be prepared that you may need more or less flour than stated. Focus on the desired dough consistency, not the exact amount.
Preparation
Step 1
Use high-quality flour. Choose good, trusted condensed milk — it should have at least 8.5% fat content. Pick vegetable oil suitable for frying.
Step 2
Beat the egg with a whisk until smooth.
Step 3
Add the condensed milk and mix well again.
Step 4
Sift the flour with baking soda and add to the dough. Start mixing with a spoon, then knead by hand into a soft, elastic dough. Note that the flour amount is approximate — I used 100g to start and added more gradually. Depending on the thickness of your condensed milk and the egg size, you may need more or less flour.
Step 5
Don’t rush to overload the dough with flour to eliminate stickiness — that will make it rubbery and tough, ruining the dessert's texture. Instead, dust your hands with flour when shaping the balls. The dough will absorb only what it needs.
Step 6
On a floured surface, roll the dough into a log and cut it into equal pieces of about 20 grams each. Roll each piece into a smooth ball. Shake off excess flour to prevent burning during frying.
Step 7
In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil. Fry the balls in small batches until golden brown. They expand 2–3 times in size while frying. They brown quickly, so stay by the stove!
Step 8
Use a slotted spoon to transfer the finished balls onto a plate lined with a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
Step 9
Let the condensed milk balls cool slightly. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar and serve. Enjoy!
