Advice
How to properly fillet a whole fish? Remove the tail, head, and fins. Cut along the backbone until you reach the spine. Flip the fish to its side. Using a sharp knife, cut the meat off the backbone. Flip the fish and cut the fillet from the other side. Clean it inside, removing the black membrane, as it’s bitter and will spoil the taste. Rinse well and dry thoroughly.
Preparation
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients. You can use any cod fillet for this dish. This can be frozen fillet blocks or a whole fresh fish. Choose the option that you can find. You can replace the cod with any white or red fish: pollock, hake, pollack, trout, pink salmon, etc. You can also add more vegetables to suit your taste.
Step 2
Rinse the cod fillet and cut it into medium pieces.
Step 3
Peel the potatoes and cut them into small cubes.
Step 4
Peel the onion and cut it into small cubes.
Step 5
Peel the garlic and chop it finely.
Step 6
Pour water into a pot, add the potatoes, and place it on medium heat. Bring the water to a boil, occasionally skimming off the foam.
Step 7
When the water boils, add the fish to the pot. Cook everything together for about 15 minutes, until ready.
Step 8
While the fish and potatoes are cooking, heat vegetable oil in a pan over low heat, add the onion and garlic, and sauté, stirring, until golden brown.
Step 9
Transfer the sautéed vegetables to the pot.
Step 10
Next, pour in the cream. Season the soup with salt and pepper, and stir. Bring the soup back to a boil.
Step 11
Turn off the heat, cover the pot, and let the soup rest for about 10 minutes.
Step 12
Serve the ready soup with cod fillet in bowls, garnished with fresh herbs. Enjoy!
