Fish and Potato Pie in the Oven

How to properly fillet a whole fish? Remove the tail, head, and fins. Cut along the backbone until you reach the spine. Turn the fish on its side. Use a sharp knife to separate the meat from the backbone. Flip the fish and remove the fillet from the other side. Clean the inside, making sure to remove the black membrane, as it has a bitter taste and may ruin the flavor. Rinse and pat dry thoroughly.

Preparation
Step 1
Prepare all the necessary ingredients. Remove the skin from the fish fillet and carefully take out all the bones. Rinse and pat dry. What type of fish can be used in a fish and potato pie? I used pink salmon fillet, but you can also use chum salmon, trout, sockeye salmon, or any other fish of your choice. Wash the potatoes under warm water using a stiff brush.
Step 2
Peel the potatoes and boil them in salted water for 15-20 minutes until tender. Drain and let them cool completely.
Step 3
Peel and finely chop the onion. Heat vegetable oil in a pan, add the onion, and sauté over medium heat for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let it cool.
Step 4
Cut the red fish into pieces and add it to the pan with onions. Season with salt and stir. Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
Step 5
Wash the eggs thoroughly in warm water, as bacteria and dust can remain on the shells. Crack the eggs into a bowl, add salt and baking soda, and mix until smooth.
Step 6
Add sour cream and mayonnaise to the egg mixture, mixing until smooth. You can substitute sour cream with natural, thick, unsweetened yogurt.
Step 7
Sift the flour into the mixture and stir until the batter reaches a smooth consistency similar to sour cream. Sifting the flour helps incorporate air, removes any impurities, and ensures a fluffy texture in the final bake.
Step 8
Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil and pour in half of the batter. Grate the cooled potatoes using a coarse grater and spread them evenly over the batter.
Step 9
Spread the fish and onion filling evenly over the potatoes.
Step 10
Pour the remaining batter over the filling and sprinkle the top with sesame seeds.
Step 11
Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) until done, approximately 15-25 minutes. The exact baking time will depend on your oven.
Step 12
Once done, remove the pie from the oven, let it cool completely, and serve. Enjoy your meal!
